GRI at Global Gypsum Conference 2008
20-05-2008 14:17
At the recently held Global Gypsum Conference 2008 in Dubai on May 11-13 our CEO, Henrik Lund-Nielsen, made a presentation for the 300 gypsum industry conference participants, about the drivers that are changing plasterboard recycling from just being “nice to have” into being a “necessity” for the plasterboard industry.

Mr. Lund-Nielsen identified the three most drivers of this development as the legislative drivers (particularly the legislation aimed at safeguarding disposal of plasterboard waste at landfills), the demands for recycling from the customers/markets and the increasing lack of inexpensive gypsum raw materials, a.o. caused by the lack of FGD/DSG in certain areas and the ever increasing cost of transporting gypsum raw materials.

Mr. Lund-Nielsen emphasized that it would become increasingly difficult — if possible at all - to dispose of plasterboard waste in landfills in the future, which will make the demands for recycling solutions (to lower the costs of disposal) from the plasterboard customers even stronger in the future to the extent that plants that do not participate in recycling will be disregarded as suppliers.

The presentation was also supported by a written paper.
