HWRC’s in England in large numbers sign up for GRI’s services as a result of the removal of the 10% rule
10-03-2009 17:00
In November 2008 the Environmental Agency in England, Wales and Northern Ireland announced that the 10% rule allowing plasterboard waste to continue to go to normal landfills would be effectively removed by April 1, 2009. From this date plasterboard waste in line with EU Council decision 33/2002 can only legally be disposed of in special landfills that have mono cells for plasterboard waste or by recycling it. As a consequence the demand for GRI’s services has exploded recently and HWRC’s in large numbers are now signing on to the services of GRI.

Kent, Cambridge, Essex and Leicestershire County Councils are already on board and new HWRC’s are signing up on a daily basis.

GRI the preferred partner for Englands HWRC’s for plasterboard recycling service

The removal of the 10% rule, that previously allowed plasterboard waste to continue to be landfilled normally, has spurred the interest in plasterboard recycling among Englands Household Waste Recycling Centers.
These are now required to segregate the plasterboard waste out, and as sending the waste to the special mono cell landfills for plasterboard waste is very costly, the HWRC’s instead want to recycle the waste.

Due to the special offer of GRI with dedicated containers developed especially for the HWRC sites, and the transport effective and environmentally friendly grab truck collection system, GRI is chosen by the HWRC’s as the preferred plasterboard recycling partner.

GRI offer the HWRC’s the lowest carbon footprint solution and a guarantee for industrial recycling, which with the ever increasing demands for tracking and traceability becomes more and more important in England.
