GRI presents at the ISWA Climate Summit Conference, December 2009
04-12-2009 13:54
Gypsum Recycling International gave a poster presentation on December 3 and 4 at the ISWA – International Solid Waste Association Climate Summit Conference held in Copenhagen.

The ISWA Conference develops and delivers the key messages from the waste industry to the political leaders of the world taking part in the COP-15, UN Climate Summit next week in Copenhagen. GRI addressed the relation between plasterboard recycling and CO2 savings.

The conference was attended by an audience of 300 waste and climate experts from around the world...

GRI’s recycling activities reduces the emissions of C02 with 20.000 tons
At the recently held ISWA Conference our CEO, Henrik Lund-Nielsen, and CTO, Claus Woldbye addressed the CO2 savings benefits from recycling of plasterboard waste. On a worldwide scale more than 3 million tons of CO2 emissions can be saved, if plasterboard waste was recycled everywhere. The activities of GRI have already meant that the environment is being spared for 20.000 tons of CO2 on an annual basis.

Waste at landfills creates methane gas, which is a highly potent greenhouse gas, 20 times more devastating than CO2. Landfills are responsible for 3-5 % of all greenhouse gas emissions, which is far more than the often criticized airline industry. So far landfilling of waste has not attracted a lot of attention in terms of how emissions of greenhouse gases can be brought down in the future. The ISWA Conference is aimed at changing that, and at making the politicians aware of the CO2 savings potentials of recycling waste instead of landfilling it.
